Retired Commissioner of Police, Alex Mensah, the star witness of the Parliament’s ad-hoc committee probing the controversial tape plotting the ouster of the Inspector General of Police has insisted that the truth of the matter will be known by all after the committee completes its work.
The lawyer cum chartered accountant, said he will be vindicated after the probe is completed and Ghanaians will know he only said the truth.
According to him, excerpts of the controversial tape have been tampered with by the persons who recorded it for their parochial interest.
“I will be vindicated, I know what happened. Some things on the tape are lies, what I said, I said the truth and I will say it again anywhere, but I’m not ready to discuss it here as I said, because it’s before a committee.
"And I hope, we will wait until the committee comes out with their report, then everybody will know the truth,” COP retired Alex George Mensah said in an interview with Accra-based TV3.
The ad-hoc committee has interrogated almost all the persons whose voices were heard on the tape and some admissions were made.
It suspended its work on Wednesday, September 13, and was scheduled to resume on Tuesday, October 2, but will however resume today [Tuesday, October 10].
However, Samuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of Parliament’s ad-hoc committee has informed that the rest of the probe will be in-camera explaining it is due to security implications.
“All the witnesses will congregate with their lawyers and then they are supposed to give us the evidential support in relation to what they said openly and privately,” he stated.
When the committee finishes its work, however, a report will be delivered to Parliament; this report will be made public and will then be discussed by Parliament in order for resolutions to be made, he added.
