The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested a man for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition at Nsawam-Adoagyiri, located in Ghana's Eastern Region.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Rauf Salami, a resident of Adoagyiri Zongo, was apprehended on the night of Friday, 23rd May, at around 9:30pm. His arrest came during a heightened police operation targeting all entry and exit points of Adoagyiri, in response to recent unrest in the area.
According to the police, “Exhibits retrieved from the suspect include two pump-action guns with 64 rounds of AA ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and an ammunition vest.”
Salami is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations. Authorities say he will be arraigned before court to face charges.
“We would like to assure the public that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of the Adoagyiri Township,” the statement read. “We therefore urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.”
