Police District and Divisional Commanders in the Capital, Accra have been tasked to join their subordinates on the field to ensure an incident-free Christmas and new year celebrations.
Traffic clogs across the capital are building up as the festive season approaches. It is to avoid commuters spending hours in traffic that the Greater Accra Commander is asking his officers to beef up monitoring on the streets and ensure free flow of traffic.
COP Dr. George Dampare addressed the media in Accra today where he outlined his plan for this year’s Christmas festivities and also measures being taken to maximize security ahead of elections next year.
The Regional Commander maintained that the police would go all out to protect lives and properties during Christmas and the New Year.
DCOP Dr. Dampare is, therefore, warning criminal minded persons that they would be dealt with ruthlessly.
Touching on next year’s general elections, he assured that the police would act professionally in the conduct of the elections.
There would be law and order before, during and after the elections, he stated.
He said the command would use the month of January to engage stakeholders – political parties, media, civil society, religious group etc - to get their input into the overall security plan for 2016.
The plans, he said, would be modified as and when new developments necessitate this.
“We will be resolute, objective and professional in the discharge of our duty in the entire period,” Dr. Dampare assured.
He urged all to do their bit to ensure that the 2016 election is not compromised.
