Police in the Bunkprugu - Nakpanduri district say investigation has commenced into last night’s killing of a security staff of Nasona Oil fuel station at Nasuan near Yunyoo in the North East Region.
The man identified as 45-year-old Laari Elisha was shot dead around 8.30pm Saturday by three suspected robbers who arrived on a motorbike at the fuel station.
Eyewitness said there was a small gunfight before the attackers overpowered the watchman and killed him.
According to sources, the gunmen then searched the pump attendant and bolted with an undisclosed amount of money amidst sporadic shootings.
While confirming the attack, the Police say security checkpoints in the region have been increased to help hunt down the attackers.
The District Police Commander, ASP Stephen Delarport said, police rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from residents, only to see the victim lying motionless in a pool of blood.
According to him, the security man was confirmed dead by doctors at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu with investigations already underway.
Mr. Delarport said the body would be released to the family after the autopsy.
This is the second murder case this month involving unknown gunmen in the region. This recent killing follows the muder of a palace elder at Gbintri in the East Mamprusi municipality.
