Police has gunned down a notorious armed robber and car snatcher in Kumasi, Saturday, after he attempted to rob a hotel.
The bullet-riddled body of 30years old Kwabena Takyi, alias Master Pee was on display at the Police headquarters, early this morning.
Briefing the media in Accra, the Director-General of Police Operations, COP John Kudalor said Kwabena Takyi has been involved in several armed robbery and car snatching cases and was arrested by the Kumasi police in 2008.
He led the police to retrieve 13 cars he snatched at gun point at various places in Kumasi.
He was however granted bail but in his brief moment of freedom, Kwabena Takyi killed the police inspector who arrested him, COP John Kudalor narrated.
He then ran from Kumasi to hide in Accra and has since been on the police wanted list.
According to COP Kudalor, police had a tip-off that Takyi was about to rob a hotel close to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology which led to the deployment of the HQ police in Accra.
On seeing the police, Takyi and his gang of robbers opened fire and the police returned fired and Takyi was hit by a bullet. He was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. Meanwhile, his accomplices are at large.
COP John Kudalor also urged hotels and guest house to ensure that they take the ID cards of guests who lodge in their hotels.
He said the police will begin to enforce this rule in the hospitality industry.
