Police in Brong-Ahafo Region have begun a hunt for assailant[s] who gunned down the paramount chief of Seikwa, Monday evening.
Nana Kweku Gyimah Akoana was gunned down in his residence whilst relaxing in his porch. He died shortly after being rushed to the hospital.
The assassination has left residents shocked and afraid. Police have taken over the town to assure the residents of adequate protection, Nhyira FM's Ohemeng Tawiah reported.
The family members of the late chief are still in tears, a day after the assassination, he added.
Joshua Baidoo, Registrar of the Seikwa stool told Tawiah, Seikwa is devoid of chieftaincy clashes and does not know the motive for the assassination.
He stated however that the chief received threatening text messages days before the assassination.
He also had two of his cars burnt some three months ago.
In a interview with Joy News, the Acting Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong said the police have begun thorough investigations into the incident. The police are yet to make any arrest.
Sarpong described Seikwa as a peaceful place and wondered what the motive will be for the attack.
Whilst admitting that the late chief had two of his cars burnt down, he would rather the assassination case be treated differently until concrete evidence is adduced to link the two incidents.
He called on the residents to assist the police by providing information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
