The Sogakope Police are on a manhunt for three suspected robbers who shot and killed a 35-year-old man in an attempted robbery operation at Hlevi, a suburb of Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The fugitives were reported to have besieged the home of a Mobile Money merchant in masks at the dawn of Tuesday, October 26, 2021 around 1 am.
According to available information, tenants in the house begun to shout for help after spotting the robbers who were trying to force open the merchant's door.
"They screamed for help compelling Justice Akorli, aged 35, now deceased, who was sleeping in the next room to come out. The assailants shot him in the lower abdomen then started firing indiscriminately and left the house afterward," parts of a press release signed by the Volta Regional Head of the Police Public Affairs Unit, DSP Elizabeth Efia Tenge said.
The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Sogakope District Hospital.
Two empty shells of BB cartridges were found by a team of crime scene experts who visited the residence to conduct reconstruction and analysis.
"The police are appealing to the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals", the Police PRO concluded.
