Intervention by the Education Minister and the Chairman of the Polytechnic Rectors Association in a meeting between the Fair Wages Commission and polytechnic teachers has failed to resolve a three-week old strike by the teachers. According to the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students the meeting ended without a resolution last night. Ahead of the meeting the Chief Executive of the Fair Wages Commission hinted that the teacher’s demand for salary negotiations will not be on the agenda since that is being heard in court. But the Public Relations Officer of GNUPS Baba Alhassan told Joy News he is disappointed all the same. He said the impasse must be resolved early enough to avert a closure of the polytechnics. Meanwhile leaders of the polytechnic teachers will be in court this morning over their strike. The National Labour Commission sued the teachers after they ignored earlier instructions to call off their strike. Source: Joy News/Ghana
