Professor Peter Quartey, an esteemed economist and Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana, has been nominated to the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC).
The nomination, made by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS), was confirmed in a letter addressed to the Minister of Finance, dated July 22, 2024.
Prof. Quartey, a Fellow of GAAS, is set to replace Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Ardayfio-Schandorf, whose tenure on PIAC expires in September 2024.
His appointment reflects GAAS’s commitment to contributing to PIAC’s mandate of ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of petroleum revenues.
Prof. Quartey’s vast experience in economic research and public policy positions him as an excellent choice to further PIAC’s objectives in safeguarding Ghana’s natural resources for the benefit of its citizens.
This nomination is expected to strengthen PIAC’s efforts in promoting good governance in Ghana’s extractive industries.
Prof. Quartey’s leadership at ISSER and his expertise in economic analysis will provide valuable insights as PIAC continues to monitor and assess the utilisation of petroleum revenues for national development.
The Ghanaian public and stakeholders in the energy sector are eagerly anticipating the positive impact Prof. Quartey’s appointment will bring to the critical oversight role of PIAC.
