Member of Parliament (MP) for Pru East constituency, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, has expressed sincere sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims involved in an accident on the Yeji-Kumasi Highway.
Eight people lost their lives while about 11 others were critically injured in the accident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Nyumuase in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality of the Bono East Region.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Mathias Hospital in Yeji.
In a statement, Mr Boam prayed for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He noted that the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the appalling condition of the Kumasi-Yeji Highway, which has unfortunately become a death trap for many road users.
“The frequency of accidents on this road is alarming and unacceptable. This vital artery connects several districts and regions, facilitating trade and commerce, yet its deteriorated state continues to claim innocent lives.
“I must emphasise that this tragedy is a direct result of inadequate maintenance, which has led to the development of numerous dangerous potholes over the past several years. As the representative of the good people of Pru East, I cannot stand by while my constituents and fellow Ghanaians lose their lives on this treacherous stretch of road,” he bemoaned.
The MP has therefore called on the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, to prioritise the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Kumasi-Yeji Highway to prevent further loss of life.
Mr Boam has pledged to lead discussions with all stakeholders and relevant authorities to ensure that, as a matter of priority, rehabilitation works begin.
