A Magistrate Court in Tamale on Wednesday, June 21, remanded coach Iddrisu S. Napari into prison custody for one week.
The Tiyumba Ladies coach is scheduled to reappear in court on Monday, June 26.
Coach Iddrisu Napari pleaded not guilty to charges of assault when he appeared before the presiding Judge, Justice Issifu Sulemana.
Napari was arrested on Monday when he reported himself to the police after initially going into hiding after he allegedly assaulted the referee, Mohammed Sakina Nasara.
He reportedly subjected her to severe beatings that left Sakina with injuries. She was admitted at the Tamale Technical University Hospital but has since been discharged.
It is reported that Napari assaulted the referee because she awarded an indirect free-kick against Tiyumba Ladies during a Northern Region Division Two League game at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium Annex 3.
Napari has since been dismissed as the chairperson of the Women’s Football Committee of the Sagnarigu Municipal Football Association.
