Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa has assured registrants that they will not spend more than 10 minutes at their various registration centres when the exercise begins on Tuesday.

According to her, 8, 000 biometric voters’ registration kits together with 5,000 technicians have been deployed nationwide, therefore, the registration process will be smooth, seamless, and speedy.

At a press briefing on Monday, she said the kits have been thoroughly tested and she is confident that they will function efficiently at the various registration centres.

“We envisage that the robustness of the kits as well as the extensive training of the staff, each applicants should not spend more than 10 mins going through the registration process.

“We have [also] set up zonal centres all across the country and these centres will be manned by our technicians and it is expected that they ensure a prompt and timely replacement of faulty kits in the fields,” she sated.

Touching on the preparedness of the officers, the Chairperson said the 44,000 officers recruited have been trained to operate professionally and efficiently.

She further indicated that the officers signed an oath pledging to abide by the newly introduced code of conduct, hence, registrants should be assured they will be interacting with professional staff.

“As part of the training, we have drummed home the importance of instilling the principles of integrity, fairness and transparency in all their activities throughout the registration process.

“We are confident that the training provided them has prepared them to operate efficiently and professionally,” she said.

The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, June 30, as the day to start compiling the new voters’ register. This exercise is to end on Thursday, August 6.
