Salem Senior High School Monday held its first ever school reunion at the school premises in a bid to reunite old and new students for the common good of the school. The school, which has been in existence for the past 48 years, has played a pivotal role in the lives of its students and the nation as a whole and the reunion was a perfect opportunity to meet once again for the good of the school. Monday’s reunion was attended by both past and present students of the school and it was chaired by Mr. Albert Amanfio with the support of Mrs. Mary Addy-Asiaby, Rev. BoyfioQuartey and Mr. Michael Agbevem, current headmaster of the school. The chairman, Mr. Albert Amanfio in an address expressed delight at the reunion, stating, several attempts have been made over the years to bring forth this reunion but to no avail. He congratulated all those who through their efforts saw the realization of the reunion. The reunion, he said, is aimed at reflecting on the institution as a whole and also chart a path for the growth of the school. He explained that it is also aimed at bringing back the school’s lost glory; lay the foundations for the school’s forth coming anniversary celebrations adding that, it is essential to acknowledge efforts made by past students towards the growth of the school. The headmaster of the school on his part called for support to improve the lot of the school in terms of infrastructure – buildings, vehicle, library, public address systems and scholarships for underprivileged students. He admitted that as much as “management is trying its best to solve the schools problems,” help from past students of the school is crucially needed. The headmaster hinted that they are about to start a tradition that will see the current crop of final year students and subsequent ones being inducted into the old student’s association before they leave school. Mr. Agbevem disclosed that it was disheartening to know that the school after 48 years of its existence has no slogan and anthem. He revealed that, they have started a quest to get a slogan and an anthem for the school. The co-chairperson for the day, Mrs. Mary Addy-Asiaby called on the student body, old and new, to go forth and spread the word about the school's reunion since it is an integral part of the school’s quest to revamp its structures and statues. Before proceedings begun, a minute silence was held for departed teachers and staff of the school. The various year groups were acknowledged in the day’s reunion.
