A student leader has appealed to leaders of political parties and their supporters to spare the country the agony and trauma that some African countries went through as a result of elections. The Students Representative Council of Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiya High Senior School made the appeal when it presented its programmes for the term to the management of the school. Miss Zainab Abass, the Senior Prefect of the school, appealed to the youth to stay away from electoral malpractices that could endanger their future. “The nation belongs to us, as future leaders we must not encourage anything that can tear it apart”. Miss Abass said some incidents relating to politics had been a source of worry to the youth, especially students when they take into account what happened in some neighbouring countries. Miss Felicia Buckman, Secretary to the Council, appealed to heads of basic and second cycle institutions not to grant permission to students who are below the voting age to go home on December 7 to vote. Miss Buckman suggested to heads of schools to convene Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) meetings to impress upon parents to ensure that their children do not get involved in electoral malpractices and violence. Mr. Issah Mumuni Dimbie, the Headmaster, commended the students for showing concern for the nation’s security by coming out with good suggestions and assured them that they would be implemented to enhance peace in the country.
