The Kongo Senior High School in the Upper East Region has been closed down after some students attacked school authorities in protest over suspected leakage of their examination papers on Monday. Mr Mark Woyongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, told Joy News the decision was taken after he personally visited the school and found the students “very rowdy and unruly”. He said the irate students wielding sticks and cudgels vandalized school properties. They also broke the windscreen of a vehicle belonging to the district director of education and also damaged a police vehicle. “They were becoming very unruly so we have no alternative. So after conferring with the district director of education it was agreed that we close down the school, so the school has been closed down,” he said. He said the district director of education has been asked to set up a committee to investigate the issue. The committee would be inaugurated on Tuesday and would present its report within two weeks. Mr Woyongo said the committee will look into the grievances of the students and make recommendations. He said in his interaction with the students “all sort of reasons” were given for their actions, some of which he said, were “flimsy”. He counseled the students that as future leaders they should be disciplined and asked them to use laid down procedures to address their concerns. Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
