Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has asked President Akufo-Addo to scrap the Fiscal Council because it is not backed by law.
The legality of a Fiscal Council the President established by Executive Instrument in December 2018, has been challenged.
Akufo-Addo on the back of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, appointed Dr. Paul Acquah, a former Bank of Ghana Governor, to chair his Fiscal Council. The role of the council, it was reported, is to enhance the stability and soundness of the financial system.

It was touted that Ghana was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to establish such a council. But the Minority Leader has poured cold water on that achievement.
In an interview with JoyNews ahead of the Mid-Year Budget review Monday, Haruna Iddrisu argued that the Fiscal Council is not backed by law and should be scrapped.
Otherwise, the Tamale South MP said, the President could come to House to amend the Fiscal Responsibility Act to give backing to the Council he has appointed.
“…because, how can their [fiscal council] decision be binding if it is not backed by law,” Iddrisu quizzed.
“It is problematic,” he added.
