The chiefs and people of Efutu Gahaadze near Winneba in the Efutu Municipality of the Central Region are on the warpath over the allegations of, and consequences of a string of defilement by lecherous male teachers in the basic school in the town.
The proportions of the sex scandal that has hit the Local Municipal Basic School is so awesome for evidence indicate that some teachers in the Gahaadze Junior High School have for years been on sexual escapades or sex spree lining up and sleeping with the school girls most of whom are said to be below age 15.
And according to sources that spoke to The Independent, some of the teenage girls have reaped the ultimate results of sex: three of them are now pregnant.
Speaking at the 19th Annual celebration of AU Day of the African Child, the chief of Efutu Gahaadze, Nana Yiteey, said. "It’s sad to note that some teachers in our local Junior High School have take advantage of the poverty in this area to have sexual relations with the girls."
He said: "I have a report in which three girls whose ages range between 14 and 17 have been impregnated by teachers in the school. And Nananom, the PTA and the SMC are seriously working round the clock to ensure that these teachers are brought to book.”
According to Nana Yiteey, information available to him show that the girls were lured into the sexual acts by the teachers with promises of either promoting them to the next class or giving them monies they would need daily for school.
The chief of Efutu Gahaadze, who is also the Municipal Examination Officer of the Efutu Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education, Service (GES), noted that Nananom, parents, opinion leaders and the entire community have declared war on those teachers and are seriously investigating the issue.
He affirmed that those teachers who would be caught in the web would be dealt with drastically.
When contacted on the issue the Efutu Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Kojo Akyerema Afful, confirmed the story but disclosed that no official report has been made on it yet. ,
"I have also heard the story but no parent has ever reported such cases to the directorate. We are waiting patiently for parents or any citizen from the community to make an official complaint to us and then the Municipal Directorate would act on the issue" Mr. Afful stated.
Investigation conducted by The Independent revealed that one of the lecherous teachers has been forced to marry a girl he has impregnated.
A source from the community told this reporter that the said teacher has sent the girl to his abode in Winneba where the expectant mother was under¬going ante-natal.
