An ex-member of the Shatta Movement's Militants, Addi Self, has finally spilled out the major reason why Shatta Wale sacked them.
According to him, Shatta Wale expected him and his colleagues to hit back at rapper Kweku Smoke, who accused Shatta of stealing his song, but they failed to do so.
He revealed this in an interview with Roselyn Felli and KMJ on Joy Prime’s morning show.
“One time, there was this artiste who came to the camp, Kweku Smoke. He was cool with Shatta. When he came to the camp, we were also there, but I had never seen Kweku Smoke or known him. So, when he came around, he was doing stuff with Shatta, which I saw online because I wasn’t always there. Two months later, Kweku Smoke came on live video, saying Shatta has stolen his song,” he narrated.
Upon spotting Kweku Smoke’s video on social media, Shatta Wale reacted, but none of the militants defended him.
However, Addi Self approached the SM boss to probe him about the allegation, but Shatta got angry because he expected the whole team to defend him by responding to Kweku Smoke.
“I was like, 1 Don you know, I don’t know this boy; when he came here, nobody introduced him to be part of us, so I don’t want to be involved in that. My boss vexed from there. So, that was how it all started. When Kweku Smoke came, he was expecting us to insult him back,” he added.
The former SM Militant said he could not have gotten involved because he was not aware of the issue and did not want to approach Kweku Smoke empty-minded.
A few days later, Shatta Wale, according to Addi Self, started ignoring them, stopped putting them on shows, and eventually sacked them publicly.
He added that it affected his music career because he lost friends and music collaboration deals due to the turnout of events.
Although he was initially hurt, Addi Self stated that he has no grudge against Shatta Wale and is focused on improving his music career.
Asked if he would still support the SM boss, he said, “I’d rather watch and support from afar than be close and controlled." Meanwhile, he is not willing to return to the camp.
Addi Self said he has dropped three projects after exiting the Shatta Movement. He has released a new track, “Mobile Money,” from his upcoming album dubbed ‘Zongoroto.'
