After two decades in music, Ghana’s exciting musician and dancer, Slim Busterr is set to cement his name in the movie industry with the premiere of his first ever movie Hellmett Saturday.
The multitalented Slim Busterr born Ebenezer Asare is optimistic that just as he is known for his music exploits, his numerous fans and movie lovers should expect the same feat.
Born to be an entertainer, Slim faced several career rejections from his priestess mum. She rejected moves for him to become a footballer, a dancer, even after he was crowned the national dance champion at Embassy Double Do competition in 1986.
“She didn’t even accept it [for me to become a dancer], I went to the UK, I came back I said I want to do music she was like no, I want you to be a pastor, I said no I don’t want to do that,” Slim told Myjoyonline.com in an interview.
Twenty years on, he considers himself to be a very successful musician: “To me I have been very successful when it comes to music,” he said.
In his quest to explore and enter into new frontiers, he was introduced to the idea of movies about three years ago. According to Slim, he was originally supposed to feature in about three scenes he ended up appearing in six scenes in a movie that started two years ago.
For his first movie, Slim The Dancing Busterr, as he is affectionately known, doubles as a lead character and an executive producer.
The title of the movie, Hellmett, he explained “means sometimes men go to hell to meet women and we give our lives to them to rule us but at the end of the day, men always entertain trouble because instead of going for the women who love us, we rather go in for the one we love and most at times, they don’t really have the love we think they have for us maybe they come in because of our money, our fame, our personalities and when they come in for that after 10 or 15 years what do you expect life becomes boring … so this Hellmett means men we entertain trouble in our lives.”
Interestingly, the movie directed by Paa Kwesi Akon and features some new faces in the industry, according to the Marsherita singer, is receiving stiff opposition from some females who say the movie brings to bare some hidden secrets and mysteries about them. These secrets and tricks in the movie in the long run will give men an undue advantage over them, Slim Busterr who considers himself as the ladies man hinted.
Hellmett will premiere at the National theatre and it will also witness exciting performances from 4×4, Kwabena Kwabena, Wutah, Tinny, among others.
