Scores on social media have expressed concern about the challenges faced by personnel of the Fire Service in dousing the fire outbreak that destroyed shops at the Makola Market in Accra on Monday.
The fire, which started Monday morning, ravaged portions of a three-storey building and destroyed valuables running into millions of Ghana cedis. It took fire officers close to 7 hours before bringing the fire under control.
For many social media users, the delay in putting out the fire is worrying.
They were particularly not happy about a revelation by the AMA boss, Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, that Fire Service personnel had to go as far as Circle, Kaneshie to fetch water, hence their late arrival at the scene.
Some social media users suggested the use of other alternatives such as helicopter to put out the fire.
Others commiserated with the victims describing Monday, July 5, as a sad day.
Below are some comments from Twitter:

Building (opposite #Makola Shopping Mall) about 300m away from the Fire Service Station is on fire!
People run to the Fire Station only to be told there is no fuel and water in the Fire Trucks! This is like one of the main Fire Stations in Accra oo 🤦🏾♂️ pic.twitter.com/p2w4MKu9ws
I think the Government should call Helicopters to help the #fireservice to calm the fire #Makola down cause it seems the #fireservice arent able to quench the fire well😣💔

Makola Fire: "Government will disburse X amount of money to victims"
Can we think of more sustainable measures to end this menace? Enough of "coded approach" to handle these issues.
My condolences to all victims. Sad day😢
Looks like Every year Makola market would catch fire.🔥🔥🔥 and we would just talk about it and let it go only for us to talk about the same thing next year 😡😡😡 are the leaders goingto do something about it or are we going to start celebrating it as a 🔥fire anniversary🔥
