The Standard Chartered Bank has donated 100 dual desks worth over GH¢1,500 (¢15 million) to Subin Camp District Assembly Junior High School near New Edubiase in the Adansi South District.
It formed part of activities to mark the bank’s hundred year’s anniversary celebrations.
Mr. Alexander Kofi Mensah Mould, Acting Managing Director of the bank, who made the donation explained that, the selection of Subin Camp was a manifestation of the bank’s social responsibility to improve quality education delivery, especially, in the deprived rural areas.
Mr. Mould disclosed that, it was also in appreciation of the commitment and relentless efforts to promote the image and credibility of the bank in the Adansi area by Mr. J.K Arthur, the Obuasi branch manager, who hails from the Subin Camp.
He advised the pupils and teachers to take good care of the items and hoped it would enhance teaching and learning.
Mr. Ernest Kofi Yakah, Member of Parliament for the area also donated exercise books to the pupils and announced that pupils in the constituency, who obtained aggregates six or seven in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be offered scholarship to the Senior High School (SHS).
Mr. Ishaque Sakye, Assembly Member for the area who received the items on behalf of the school authorities expressed the pupils, teachers and parents’ gratitude to the bank for the gesture and said it would relieve their burden.
Mr. Alhassan Dickson Awudu, the head teacher also thanked the donors and appealed to other institutions and organizations to emulate the bank to improve education in the rural areas.
