Chief Executive Officer of Glitz Africa, Claudia Lumor has disputed claims that the Glitz Style Awards is bias towards certain industries.
“It is an award, people have different views, different comments. People are very passionate about these things because they have fans, they want to see them there, so when they do not get nominated then people are disappointed,” she said.
She explained because the Style Awards was instituted to honour reputed brands it is targeted at markets beyond clothing and fashion industry.
“We are not just going to put people in a category because of numbers. This is about brand, it is not even just about clothes. It is about people who put their looks together, they respect their brands, their image, reputation not clothes. We are telling Africa, when it comes to Ghana, our TV, Radio, Media, this are the people,” she noted.
The third season of the Glitz Style Awards for this year comes off Saturday, August 19, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
The Awards has enjoyed a dose of praises and condemnation since it began in the country.
According to critics, the Awards is skewed towards few industries to the detriment of the other sectors. Others also said the scope of personality nomination is limited, advocating for an open system.
But the boss of Glitz Africa has registered her disagreement vehemently, saying the Awards has embraced all the industries in the country.
Claudia Lumor said the awards has bolstered the businesses for many people in Ghana.
“I think it is an amazing time for the fashion industry. It is very exciting for me because 6, 7 years ago, we didn’t have anything like this. For me what is more exciting is we have doctors, architect becoming accessory designers, fashion designers," she said.
She was forthright that the Awards has strengthened the fashion industry to the point that corporate Ghana cannot ignore it.
“Competition is good but what I will say is that it is not about competition but is about the business we are giving the young ones”.
Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Yankson and Editor of Joy Sports, Nathaniel Attoh are nominees in the most stylish media personality of the year category.
This year’s awards will feature performances from Wutah, King Promise, Akwaboah and Nigerian actress Stephanie Okereke Linus will be guest representative from The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
