The Roads Minister says the government should be commended, not criticised, for modifying the Suame Interchange project to reflect changing urban and traffic realities in Kumasi.
Responding to concerns raised by the NPP Ashanti Caucus, the Minister said the redesign prioritises efficiency, affordability and long-term benefits.
“The money for the fourth tier is being allocated to the continuation of the N10 from Abusuakuruwa to Akom, which makes it an even more desirable plan,” he stated, insisting that no funds have been diverted from the original project.
He further disclosed that over GH¢3 billion has been committed to the outer ring road alone.
The Minister also rejected claims of policy inconsistency under the Big Push Programme, saying the Suame Interchange remains a flagship project within the initiative.
“We are committed to ensuring that the people of Kumasi get value for money,” he said.
“Kumasi, as the second largest city, deserves the best,” the Minister added, expressing confidence that the modified interchange and complementary road projects would be fully appreciated upon completion.
