The Supreme Court is set to hear an application for judicial review filed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) today, Friday, December 27.
The case contests a December 20 High Court ruling that directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate parliamentary election results in nine disputed constituencies.
The High Court ruling stemmed from a mandamus application filed by New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates in the affected areas.
The court ordered the EC to fulfil its constitutional obligation by verifying and re-collating results in the contested constituencies.
So far, the EC has re-collated results in seven of the nine constituencies, with Dome/Kwabenya and Ablekuma North still pending.
The NDC, however, has fiercely opposed the ruling and the re-collation process, labelling it illegal and baseless.
According to the party, the High Court exceeded its jurisdiction and undermined transparency, procedural fairness, and the integrity of the electoral process.
This high-profile case has drawn national attention, as the Supreme Court’s decision could set a precedent for resolving electoral disputes in Ghana.
Political observers and stakeholders eagerly await the outcome, which may have significant implications for the country’s electoral framework.
