Prospective candidates applying for admission to the Takoradi Polytechnic during the 2011/12 academic year will have to do so via the internet [www.tpoly.edu.gh
], the first such automated admission process in a polytechnic in the country.
By this feat, Takoradi Polytechnic has joined the league of tertiary institutions in the country which are deploying Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platforms in their administration processes for ease of governance and spur interest in on-line educational resources among their students for enhanced performance.
The Takoradi Polytechnic’s electronic admission system, which is linked to the West African Examinations Council’s database, will ease the scourge of students seeking admissions into the Polytechnic with fake results and also reduce errors often associated with manual admission procedures.
Briefing the media at Takoradi on Monday, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr. Jones Addai-Marfo, said the online admission will help the institution grasp other benefits associated with the technology, including tracking students records from the time they enter the Polytechnic until the termination of their studies.
Besides, the system will permit the Polytechnic to communicate and connect instantaneously with its diverse publics in a more efficient manner.
“The system will allow us to develop an interactive website where the polytechnic community and the general public can access information and offer suggestions that will help improve service rendered by us, thus making T-Poly a citadel of academic excellence”, he added.
Meanwhile a two-day workshop has been organized by MAK-Edu Consult, the developers of the website, for staff of the institution to enable them sharpen their skills in managing the content of the Polytechnic’s website.
