A 27-year-old taxi driver, Kofi Donkoh has been arrested by the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command for driving over a police officer at Agona Swedru.
The incident happened at the Agona Swedru Palace junction in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region where the police officer was directing traffic.
Police source say the taxi driver with registration number GW 6086-22 in an attempt to circumvent the heavy traffic on the stretch resorted to driving on the shoulder of the road.
The driver who was driving at top speed, according to the source, unfortunately drove over the police officer who was standing on the shoulder of the road directing traffic.
The police officer, Constable Ernest Opare, is seriously injured and receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital.
Meanwhile, the taxi driver is in police custody and will be arraigned.
