Ing. Moses Tei-Mensah Oletey has been adjudged Engineering Personality of the Year at the maiden Obuasi Mine Engineering Excellence Awards, in recognition of his exceptional leadership, technical expertise and sustained contribution to engineering performance at the Mine.
The award was presented at a well-attended ceremony organised by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, celebrating outstanding individuals and teams whose work continues to advance safety, innovation, reliability and operational excellence across the Mine.
Ing. Oletey’s recognition underscores the critical role of visionary engineering leadership in delivering safe, efficient and reliable mining operations, while strengthening overall operational performance.
His career at Obuasi Mine reflects remarkable versatility and depth, having successfully served in several key roles, including Principal Electrical Engineer, Engineering Manager – Electrical, Engineering Manager – Underground, and Engineering Manager – Fixed Plant.
Each transition demanded mastery of distinctly different operational environments.
In every assignment, Ing. Oletey restored stability, improved systems and strengthened teams. Excellence, colleagues noted, was not dependent on position—it consistently followed him.
Across underground operations and fixed plant environments, he demonstrated a balanced operational and project mindset, achieving immediate reliability while safeguarding long-term asset integrity.
His approach to engineering leadership has been defined by disciplined project execution, foresight and strong alignment with business objectives.
Decisions were grounded in data, standards and sound engineering judgement, ensuring that performance gains were both credible and sustainable.
Notably, his contribution to the Obuasi Feasibility Study and its subsequent implementation stands as a lasting testament to his strategic value.
His technical insights, risk evaluations and execution support during this critical phase helped shape decisions that underpin the Mine’s present and future viability.
Speaking at the event, Director of Engineering, Ing. Eric Broni, noted that the awards align with the Managing Director’s vision of Making Obuasi Great Again (MOGA), which places safety, excellence and people at the heart of sustainable mining. Head of Operations, Awie Frey, commended award recipients for setting high benchmarks and inspiring others to uphold the Mine’s values of safety, innovation and continuous improvement.
The Engineering Excellence Awards are expected to become a flagship annual event, reinforcing Obuasi Mine’s commitment to recognising performance, nurturing talent and delivering responsible, sustainable mining through strong engineering leadership.
