The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) and other striking unions are set to hold a crucial meeting with the government to discuss their improved conditions of services.
The Union is expected to deliberate on issues, including their Tier-2 pensions and the lump sum payments due to their retirees, among other issues.
Speaking to JoyNews on February 1, the Chairman of the Legon branch of TEWU, Benjamin Nkumsah said the outcome of the meeting would impact their decision to continue the strike or call it off.
“Before we embark on any strike, we go through processes. So by the time we get to the strike issue, then you are asking us to call off the strike, you must come back to the same processes that we used to embark on the strike before we can call off the strike.
"So at the moment, we are still in the process, but thankfully we are meeting the government today. So by tomorrow, if anything better comes out of that meeting, maybe we will get something good out of it, whether to call it off,” he said.
Meanwhile, about 10,000 members of the association are currently on strike.
