Some students at the University of Ghana in Accra believe the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to deliver on its mandate, leaving Ghana in a worse state than when it first took office.
According to them, if they were to rate the current government’s performance using academic grading, the NPP would receive an F9.
Their comments align with the recent research by Fitch Solutions, a research and data firm, which indicated that the NPP is likely to be defeated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7 general elections.
The London-based firm, consistent with its forecast since last year, found that 54 per cent of respondents surveyed, predicted NDC candidate, John Mahama would win the upcoming presidential election.
The students expressed confidence in Mahama's ability to better manage the economy than the governing NPP.
Speaking to JoyNews during Mahama’s campus tour, a student mentioned her belief in Mahama’s potential to transform the economy based on his campaign messages and manifesto, stating he was a better fit.
“When someone is speaking you can access the person by what they say and how they say it."
“The current government has failed us. He [Akufo-Addo] has failed us like F9, failed. Not even E8. F9 failed he has failed us miserably,” she said.
Another student, Miriam, was confident about Mr Mahama’s win in the December polls.
When asked about the Fitch report indicating that John Mahama is likely to win the election, Miriam said “It is not likely, he is winning the elections. Period. You can’t tell us anything. That is a fact. We are choosing experience. That is a fact. Nobody can tell us anything.
“That is a man, whose record has lived before him. That is what Ghanaians want. We don’t want people who can talk. We want people who can do the work and that is JM [John Mahama] for you. We have won hands down.”
Although she admitted that Mr Mahama made some mistakes during his tenure as President, she believes his good records will speak for him.
