The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has dispelled claims that government has reduced the testing and tracing activities that immensely contributed to Ghana’s fight against Covid-19.
Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye at a press briefing on Thursday noted that a systematic process is being implemented, thus, there is no way, Ghana can lessen its contact tracing and testing.
“There is nothing like reduced contact tracing. Our contact tracing is more based on the number of contacts we have to follow. So the more positives you record the more contacts you follow.
“So there is no magic number that we must do 5000 contacts a day but it depends on what we have recorded in previous days and we act according to that,” he stated.
His comments come after, some health associations and activists accused government of cutting down rigorous contact tracing and testing after it was announced that the Covid-19 pandemic is under control in the country.
According to them, there is no spike in cases because the thorough contact tracing and testing that used to be done when the virus first came to the shores of Ghana has dropped abruptly.
But, Dr Aboagye insists that his outfit is still on track and has been performing its mandate as required.
Touching on what is being done at the airport, the GHS Director-General said measures are being established to ensure that when people arrive in the country, they can be tested quickly before integrating into society.
He indicated that the measures have not been concluded yet, however, all findings will be given to President Nana Akufo-Addo before September 1.
