Tigo Ghana on Friday, May, 27, 2011 introduced a new product called Tigo Voice SMS, to allow all prepaid, postpaid and hybrid subscribers to send voice messages to their friends and loved ones and business associates across networks.
A statement from Tigo said “subscribers who use this service will be charged Ghp 5 per message and to retrieve a message will be charged based on the current call tariff.”
The statement explained that to record a message the user dials * and the number of the person the message is meant for; example *0277XXXXXX or *0246XXXXXX
It said users trying to send messages to Tigo numbers can also record a message when the called party is busy, switched off or does not answer.
The statement said to retrieve a message the user dials *0* for new messages or *1* for previous messages, which have been stored on the phone.
The user will receive a voice sms when his number is busy, does not answer or phone has been switched off when a caller records a message.
“Off-net users will retrieve messages by dialing 0277500213 and 0277500214,” it said.
The statement said the unique thing about the product was that a user could send voice messages to friends, family and business associates on all networks, “a feature most telecom companies don’t offer.”
