University teachers across the country are on strike. The teachers have been demanding salary arrears from government since January last year but they say that has not been successful. They claim an ultimatum to government to pay the arrears ended yesterday, prompting their decision to lay down their tools. Collins Adu Bempah, who is President of the Ghana Institute of Journalism wing of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) told Joy News the government had not demonstrated a commitment to pay the teachers their arrears which they duly deserve. Apart from the unpaid arrears which the teachers are fighting for, Mr Adu Bempah said teachers at GIJ are suffering an unexplained slash of their salaries for September. Source: Joy News/Ghana
