Workers at the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) are demanding the immediate removal of Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) CEO, Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, accusing him of mismanagement and a refusal to engage with stakeholders.
The workers' union staged a protest on Monday, February 9, alleging that Mr. Ankrah’s leadership has been marked by incompetence and an authoritarian style.
They claim his narrative of a debt-ridden VALCO in need of external investment is a misleading pretext to sell the state-owned company.
Local Union Chairman, Samuel Watchman Agyeman, addressed the gathering, stating that all attempts to dialogue with the CEO have been ignored, including a formal letter sent on December 18.
“He doesn’t take advice from anybody… What he says he wants to do, whether good or bad, is what he does,” Agyeman asserted. He called on the President to dismiss the CEO, declaring him “not fit to occupy a leadership position.”
Contrary to GIADEC’s position, the union insists VALCO possesses the inherent capacity to operate profitably without ceding control to outside investors.
They describe the ongoing search for a strategic partner as a de facto sale of the national asset and demand an immediate halt for a transparent review of the company’s actual potential.
