The Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako has underscored the urgent need for construction work on stalled projects to resume.

This, according to him, will facilitate quality effective teaching and learning in the university.

Professor Asare-Bediako mentioned administrative block and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Laboratory among others as abandoned projects at the Dormaa campus of UENR.

The Vice Chancellor of UENR was speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony at the university's Dormaa campus to commence the construction of a cafeteria to serve both the students and the staff.  

Construction of the cafeteria was initiated by the Governing Council of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of UENR to solve the protracted feeding related challenges at the Dormaa campus.

The GHC500,000 project is expected to get completed in 24 weeks as the contractor, Mining and Builders Contractors Limited has assured to complete project within 20 weeks.

According to Professor Asare-Bediako, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects got started in 2013 but have still not been completed.  

A situation, he described as worrying and creating unfriendly teaching and learning environment for both students and lecturers.

He further expressed displeasure about the absence of student hostels at the Dormaa Ahenkro campus of the university, adding “it is a big challenge for the students so we call on both the private and public sector for assistance to get the challenge fixed”.

Professor Asare-Bediako commended the Governing Council of the SRC for initiating the 150-seater cafeteria project to augment efforts of the university management.

The SRC president, Richard Wiafe, revealed that students at the Dormaa campus of the university requested the cafeteria project, after an engagement with the governing council of the SRC.

He explained the project when completed will include offices, a kitchen as well as an auditorium for SRC related activities.

The Dormaa campus is one of the three satellite campuses of UENR, hosting the School of Geosciences as well as the School of Agriculture and Technology.

The current students’ population across two schools at the Dormaa campus stands at 888.
