One of the country’s sole surviving hip life music groups, Vision In Progress (VIP) made up of Prodigal, (Joseph Nana Ofori), Promzy (Emmanuel Promzy Ababio) and Lazzy (Abdul Hamid Ibrahim) is set hold one of the country’s biggest music reunions next year.
The group which started in the late 90s as five members were reduced to four after the then leader of the group, Friction, decided to go solo.
Over the years, several groups have lost their presence in the industry with most of them splitting up or losing out in the current competition the industry holds.
VIP has over the years held their horses and still stand as one of the best music groups in the country if not the best with wide international recognition.
The group disclosed in an interview with Myjoyonline.com Thursday plans to bring back all past hip life music greats in one music compilation which will be released mid-2011.
“We want to be bring back some of the old artistes like Buk Bak, Tic Tac, Akyeame, Lord Kenya and the rest in one big album next year,” Lazy said adding it will be a collaboration that will have 15 tracks on it.
He said they will hold a big release for the album followed by a nationwide tour by all the artistes to promote the album.
The group also hinted of an intended remake of Gemann’s High life in G-Major released in the 1980s. Although they have not entirely abandoned that idea, they say it will be great to do a remix of that song with Gemann himself.
“We are still considering that because, someone, J Martins from Nigeria has already done a remix of that song we may still go ahead to also do ours with Gemann,” Lazy said.
Touching on the misunderstanding in terms of who manages the group, the group explained that they have their own record label, BDN (Boggie Down Nima) Productions, and as they were about to release the current album, Progress, Movingui Records came into the scene and are currently their executive producers. He also explain that Paradise Entertainment only serves as managers of the group.
VIP is set to hold a corporate launch of their latest album, Progress at the Holiday Inn on Friday for the corporate community. The event will also see the premiering of their latest video, My Baby which features Nigerian musician Flavour of Nwa Baby (Ashawo) fame.
