Vodafone Ghana has officially launched Season 2 of its reality TV show ‘ICONS’.
This year’s show, is dubbed the ‘Vodafone Icons: Mixed Edition’, and it is intended to discover a mixed group of both males and females.
A statement from Vodafone said auditions for talented young hopefuls are scheduled to start on January 20 in Tamale but contestants are encouraged to audition online by uploading a recorded video of themselves on the Vodafone Facebook page.
“This year’s show promises to deliver even greater excitement, as both males and females can take part or audition, in the hunt to discover Ghana’s first ever mixed group,” it said.
The statement called on interested aspiring male and female singers aged between 18 and 30 to create a two minute acapella video clip of themselves singing any of the latest music hits, and upload unto YouTube, before sharing the link on the Vodafone Facebook page – www.facebook.com/Vodafone Ghana
Head of Corporate Communications at Vodafone, Carmen Bruce-Annan was quoted as saying ‘the introduction of online auditioning and male groups into this year’s edition is because we want to make this year’s Icons Mixed edition even better than last year’s which was a huge success, by all standards.
‘Our decision to add the search for a mixed group in this year’s edition is driven by our passion of empowering the young men as well to reach for the sky in their quest to become music icons in the country.
We want to use Vodafone Icons to bring to light our own version of internationally acclaimed musicians like JLS in England, Black Eyed Peas, among other amazing international groups’.
Successful online audition applicants will be invited to perform before the judges, including outspoken and funny Miss Naa of Ryse and Shyne fame on Y FM, popular producer and sound engineer Apietus and sensational gospel singer Gena West; and if selected, attend the ICONS boot camp where they will be coached by the judges and other professional choreographers.
Last year’s edition of ‘Icons: Diva’s Edition’ had RnM emerging as overall winners of the competition.
