The West African Examination Council is investigating over 1,000 cases of impersonation in last year’s conduct of examinations across the country. This the acting head of the Ghana office of WAEC, Nii Christian Johnson said, is worrying and paints a negative picture about Ghana to its West African neighbours. WAEC organises examinations for students in some of the West African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Nii Johnson warned that the council will take serious measures to nip examination malpractices, especially, impersonation in the bud. “For certain malpractices if you get yourself involved in it, it is not just your results which are cancelled but you may also face the law and if you don’t take care you will put your own future on the board,” He appealed to parents to carry out their parental responsibilities to the latter, in order to help solve the problem. “I will really entreat parents to talk to their wards,” he said, “adding if you examine the background of the candidates you will realize that many of them just left school and are still under parental control. “We please plead with the public particularly teachers and parents and those who are knowledgeable in this particular things to help us stamp out these things. The council he said has released provisional results of the 2009 Senior High School private Exams held between November and December last year. Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
