Some parliamentary candidates contesting the Wenchi constituency seat in the Bono region have declared their commitment to ensure a violence-free election on December 7.
They include Kojo Frempong of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the candidate for the New Force Movement, David Kusi.
The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Alhaji Seidu Haruna, the candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), was absent.
Kojo Frempong and David Kusi made the pledge when they took turns to address a parliamentary debate organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) held at Wenchi.

They stated that peace is a pre-requisite for accelerated development of the Wenchi constituency, adding that without peace, the victor in Saturday’s election will find it difficult to push the development agenda of the area forward.
The parliamentary candidates promised to be decorous in the final electioneering and ensure their followers comport themselves, tolerate each other and avoid abusive language.
They also pledged to accept the outcome of the election unreservedly and called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to remain neutral to guarantee the credibility of the general elections.
Both the NPP and the New Force Movement parliamentary candidates used the platform to explain the policies and proposals of their respective parties, appealing to the electorates to vote for them and their respective presidential candidates.

Kojo Frempong, the NPP candidate, highlighted the party’s manifesto for election 2024, calling on the Wenchi constituency electorates to vote massively for Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as the President and vote for him to represent them in the next parliament.
The New Force Movement’s candidate also outlined his vision and urged the electorates to vote for his party’s Presidential candidate, Nana Kwame Bediako and himself to represent them in the next parliament.

The Wenchi Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nana Boakye Yiadom, explained that the campaign for an election without violence is a shared responsibility, urging the people of Wenchi to know that there has not been any winner in violent confrontations the world over.
He stated that the debate must serve as a platform to ensure the parliamentary candidates and their followers co-exist peacefully.

DSP Nana Boakye further said the aftermath of the general election on Saturday is vital to the sustainability of Ghana’s democracy, hence the need for the candidates to serve as peace ambassadors wherever they go.
The Wenchi constituency parliamentary debate centred on the agricultural sector, business development, quality healthcare, artisanal development, and employment opportunities.
