Chief of Jukwa in the Central region, Nana Afrifa Yamoah II says he is ashamed of the deplorable road of Kakum National Park stating that they are tired of complaining without any attention.
He said he has made several appeals to government and individual bodies to help fix the road leading to Ghana’s foremost tourist sites but there has not been any help.
Speaking to Joy News' Kwabena Owusu-Ampratwum, Nana Yamoah II said, “What worries us is the road network from Cape Coast to Kakum National Park”.
According to him, the nature of the road has caused several accidents stressing that the Jukwa Police Station is filled with such accident vehicles.
On October 13, 2015, Joy News reported that the revenue of the Park has been slashed by 30 percent due to the poor nature of its road.
Coordinator of the Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust, managers of the Kakum National Park, Jonathan Nyaba disclosed the annual visitor population of 180, 000 have reduced.
“This particular facility is not for those of us who are managing it, it is a national facility and government and other stakeholders should be worried about the situation,” he told Joy News.
Not even the intervention of the former Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Quansah, was enough to get the road fixed.
His promise that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be fixing the road has gone unfulfilled since he said it some six months ago.
A tourist who spoke to Joy News disclosed it is difficult to travel on the road for the third time adding a journey will leave one with back aches.
She said, the dusty nature of the road has deterred her from paying another visit to the Kakum National Park demanding that it was about time government get the road fixed.
