The Oti Regional Minister-designate, John Kwadwo Gyapong has called for dialogue as a means of resolving the ongoing conflict in Nkwanta.
Speaking during his vetting on Thursday, January 23, Mr Gyapong emphasised the importance of collaboration and consultation with various stakeholders to address the situation.
When asked about his approach to the conflict, Mr Gyapong explained that, if confirmed, he would begin by consulting with the Regional Coordinating Council, the Security Coordinating Council, as well as chiefs and other stakeholders in the Nkwanta area. He stressed that the key to resolving the conflict lies in working together.
"When I’m given the nod, I will consult my Regional Coordinating Council, I will consult the Security Coordinating Council, and again consult the chiefs and stakeholders in Nkwanta. From there, we will see how we are going to solve this issue,” he stated.
Mr Gyapong made it clear that conflict resolution is not an event, but a process that requires time, careful planning, and ongoing dialogue. He suggested the formation of a dedicated conflict resolution committee to facilitate this process.
“Conflict is not an event, and the solution to the conflict also is not an event. We will dialogue with the stakeholders and the people who matter. But before we do that, we will have dialogue with them, establish a conflict resolution committee that will be attractive to all the players of the conflict,” he said.
