The Tamale Technical University branch of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana has accused the National Labour Commission of acting in bad faith.
They said the Labour Commission has not acted as the independent arbiter they thought it should be.
According to the branch Chairman, Virgil Abedana, they expected the Commission to go to court to compel government to honour its part of the bargain per its October 28, 2019 ruling but that has not been done. They say the labour commission is acting as a spokesperson for government which they describe as unhealthy for the arbitration.
He said government gave an excuse that it did not have data for the Tamale Technical University but that cannot be true because, teachers received their December generic allowance which means government has the data.
Mr. Abedana added that the only difference is the quantum, therefore, they are not sending government any new data.
He said they are not going to call off their industrial action until they meet on January 16 and 17, 2020 at Congress to decide as a union.
Meanwhile, the provisional time table for the end of semester examination, has been cancelled leaving students worried.
The students lament that they are wasting money on their upkeep and not doing anything productive on campus.
“I am from Accra and I can't waste money and travel home because I don't know when they will call off the strike yet I am not doing anything,” a final year student, Rita Osei, told JoyNews.
Another level 200 student, Dauda Kamil, appealed to the government to reconsider its stance and address the concerns of their teachers in order not to disrupt the calendar.
