The Western Regional Police Command has raided illegal mining aka galamsey sites in Avelebo and Akango, located in the Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira District of the Western Region.

During the operation, the police seized 10 excavators and arrested 15 individuals, comprising seven foreign nationals and eight Ghanaian miners.

Authorities say the illegal miners had taken over the Evalue Jomoro enclave, engaging in unauthorized mining activities and polluting the Ankobra River.

According to officials, the seized excavators and other equipment will serve as key evidence in prosecuting the suspects.
