A 30-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son were burnt to death after fire engulfed their room at Kukuruzua, a suburb of Zebilla in the Upper East Region, Saturday.
The woman, Ananti Ayabogot, who was allegedly mentally unstable, set the fire to burn refuse she had gathered at the entrance of the room.
The fire spread fast into the room which was filled with dried millet stock and grass. Ananti and her son, Kofi Ayabogot got trapped in the room.
According to residents, Fire Service Officials arrived at the scene after an announcement was made on a local radio station called Dastech FM.
The two were already burnt before they arrived, a resident said.
