The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is making efforts to unite its members to work towards the agenda of winning a third term in government.

The move comes after internal party elections at the regional and constituency levels led to factions in the Party.

Third-term Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has reached out to all four contenders for the Chairmanship position in the recent polls.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Aide to Mr Antwi Boasiako, Andy Owusu.

It said “the re-elected Regional Chairman has already hit the ground running as he seeks to build a strong and united front in the quest to prosecute the ‘Breaking the 8 Agenda.’”

“He has already given true meaning to united leadership after paying courtesy call on all the regional chairmanship aspirants at their residences on Sunday”, parts of the statement said.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako won the polls with a landslide victory, attaining 464 votes as his closest rival Odeneho Kwaku Appiah followed with 306 votes.

Three other aspirants comprising Asare Bediako, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi and Oheneba Kofi Adu Bawuah shared thirty votes.

In his victory speech at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Mr Antwi Boasiako re-launched the ambition of the Party to ‘break the eight’, emphasizing the need for unity among the party faithful.

“We should demonstrate this by standing together and being united so that we can ‘Break the 8’ in 2024. We may have our differences, but we need to work together since a lot is expected from us as a formidable political party,” he said.

As a step to strengthen bonds among the aspirants, the Chairman will host a breakfast meeting with all 39 aspirants who participated in the NPP regional elections.

The statement to invite the aspirants noted that “the Regional Chairman intends to use the occasion to express gratitude to all the aspirants and to also encourage them to continue to work towards fostering unity and togetherness in the interest of the party.”

Four out of 47 constituencies were denied voting rights at the Regional Delegates Conference due to court actions among other reasons.

Credibility of elections in other constituencies is still being challenged.

These challenges will be prioritised by the Antwi Boasiako administration, the statement added.
