The University for Development Studies (UDS) defeated the defending champions of season 3, the University of Ibadan at the first stage of the Zain Africa Challenged (ZAC).
The team effortlessly dislodged their seemingly indomitable Nigerian counterparts with a 690-620 point to progress to the next stage of the contest, bringing the former champions to the end of the journey for the season.
This brings to two the number of Ghanaian universities that have made it to the quarter final stage of the competition.
Earlier, the University of Ghana (UG) defeated their counterpart from the Arusha University, Tanzania.
In his reaction to UDS’s sterling performance, Norbert Aluah Amande, a former ZAC contestant for UDS said, ‘I am not surprised at the team’s performance. We gave them a lot of information about our experiences last year and they were very keen to learn.”
“They are very hard working boys and I wish them the very best of luck – I know they will go all the way and make UDS and Ghana proud,” he added.
Instituted in 2005, ZAC the first ever televised Pan African intellectual quiz features universities from the English-speaking Zain-operated countries including Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Zambia and aims at developing Africa’s youth through education.
