A Kumasi circuit court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo- Yartey has sentenced one Baba Grumah alias Anthony, farmer to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing 12 idols worth GH15, 000.00 belonging to one Bosomfour Yaw Kwarteng, deceased.
His other accomplice Kwame Adarkwah alias Saddique who denied the charges has been remanded into prison custody to reappear on November 14, 2013.
They were charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry and stealing contrary to sections 23(1), 152 and 124(1) of Act 29/60 as amended by paragraph 4 of NLCD 398/69 respectively.
Narrating the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Sylvanus D’almeida said the Complainant who is a farmer and a transport owner is the successor of his late brother Bosom- four Yaw Kwarteng who had a shrine at Nintine near Ashanti Mampong.
On October 6, 2013, at about 3:00am the two accused persons broke into the room where the idols were kept and made away with them.
According to the Prosecution, the suspect, Kwame Adarkwah who is a native of the town allegedly gave the idols to the Convict to be kept.
Luck eluded the Convict when in an attempt to leave the town on board of a vehicle was arrested and escorted to the Mampong Police Station.
A search conducted on him discovered the stolen idols and mentioned the suspect as the one who called him to steal the idols.
He (Suspect) was also arrested by the police and in his caution statement denied having knowledge in the case.
