A Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced the bodyguard of deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ms Rachel Florence Appoh to 20 years imprisonment for stealing a total amount of Nine hundred Ghana cedis from the bank account of his boss.
Constable Nicholas Owusu Asante was reported to have been sentenced on his own plea, after he pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and forgery leveled against him.
The body guard fraudulently withdrew an amount of GH¢800 from the account of the deputy minister and was in the process of withdrawing an additional GH¢100, when he was arrested at the bank.
The deputy minister was said to have detected that her cheque book, with serial numbers 151901-151925 were missing as well an unusual withdrawal from her Agricultural Development Bank account.
She therefore filed a complaint to the bank with the bank officials mounting surveillance to monitor cash withdrawals on the said account.
Constable Owusu Asante, then came to withdraw an amount of 100 Ghana cedis from the same account after he had succeeded in withdrawing 800 Ghan cedis.
He was arrested and hauled before the court for prosecution.
