Ghanaian Pharmaceutical giant, TOBINCO has welcomed the decision by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health to resolve the impasse with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
The FDA accused TOBINCO of importing substandard drugs into the country. It declared as fake an anti-malaria drug, G-Sunate plus suppositories imported by TOBINCO.
Though FDA insists it is doing its work as a regulator, TOBINCO is accusing it of masterminding a campaign to run down the company.
In an attempt to put the matter to rest, the Parliamentary Committee on Health in a statement indicated it will begin an official inquiry into the matter.
Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Yieleh Chireh who signed the statement described as “unnecessary and unhelpful” the ongoing media war by the two organizations.
Mr. Yieleh Chireh has called for a ceasefire hoping it will create a congenial atmosphere for a peaceful resolution of the matter.
In an interview on JoyFM’s Top Story Thursday, Dr. Peter Tobbin, a member of TOBINCO described as timely the Parliamentary intervention to resolve the impasse.
According to him, the unnecessary media war only put fear in people who patronize the drugs adding “we are very pleased they have come out now to ask for a ceasefire”.
Dr. Peter Tobbin disclosed that they have received a formal communication from the Committee and hope the other party will also comply with it.
“As a law abiding company, we will make sure there are no further utterances in the media regarding this issue”.
He expressed confidence in the Committee to settle the matter amicably.
