After one year since government announced a-one-million cedi Media Development Fund to build the capacity of media practitioners, beneficiaries say they are yet to receive anything from the said fund.
The Media Foundation for West Africa is therefore leading a campaign to demand the whereabouts of the fund.
Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga in answering a question on the floor of Parliament said the government is still liaising with the stakeholders to find the right modalities to disburse the fund.
He said the government was contemplating between passing a law and administering the fund in the way GETFund is being executed or just to administer it by putting media representatives in place to disburse the fund.
According to him, government settled on the latter and invited stakeholders to nominate representatives, who will then be members of a board of trustees to administer the fund.
But the Foundation for West Africa maintains after a thorough discussion with all the prospective beneficiaries, have realised nothing substantial has been done, hence the need to demand answers.
Executive Director of the Foundation, Sulemana Braimah said they have the support of over seventy media houses in the country to embark on this assignment.
He told Joy News' Evans Mensah they would put pressure on government until the fund is made available for the purpose for which it was intended.
