The suspected murderer of a-32-year-old Rosemond Nyampong, who works with Stanbic Bank, has been remanded into custody after he was arraigned before the Tema Magistrate court for murder.
The accused person, a-25-year-old welder, Abraham Baah-Kwame Oyortey, who was arrested at Odumase-Krobo, is expected to reappear before the court on December 23.
He was alleged to have confessed to committing the crime with two other accomplices, who are on the run.
The deceased, who lived alone, was found dead in her room in Baastonaa on the Spintex road, a suburb of Accra, on November 21 with her mouth taped.
She had not been seen at work or in public for days prompting her colleagues and family members to begin a frantic search for her.
When they could not reach her via phone, the family sought police permission to break into her home. She was found dead in her kitchen and lying in a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, the family of the 32-year-old banker is demanding justice for the murder of their daughter.
Speaking to Joy News, the Tema police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Olivia Turkson noted that the accused person was arrested following police intelligence gathered.
According to her, Baah-Kwame Ayortey was arrested while in the deceased's toyota yaris salon car. He was brought to Tema for further interrogation, where he mentioned two other persons, as his accomplices.
The accused person, the police PRO noted, could not locate the house of his accomplices as he usually meets them under a big nim tree in Achimota, a suburb of Accra.
A search conducted in his room in Tema revealed three pictures of the deceased person with the suspect indicating he had no relationship with her. Investigations are still continuing, the police PRO noted.
Uncle of the deceased, Samson Nyampong, who claimed he first saw the lifeless body of his niece, when her room was broken into, told Joy News all the family wants is justice.
Rosemond, the first of five children, lost the father about six months ago, he noted.
She will be buried on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
